THE FINAL DEBATE
"Joe the Plumber"
-My name is not Joe, I am not a plumber, and thanks to Republicans, I cannot afford a six pack.
"Well, Americans have gotten to know Sarah Palin. They know that she's a role model to women..."
head...swelling...face...burning...might...explode!!!
If Sarah Palin is a strong role model for women, then this must be 1890. Sarah Palin does not represent me or any of my friends.
-I do not believe that dinosaurs roamed the earth 5,000 years ago.
-I do not believe that religions other than Christianity are witchcraft and sorcery.
-I do not believe that a 12-year-old girl who is raped by her father should be forced to have his child, a baby that would be both her son and her brother.
-I do not believe that polar bears (or beluga whales) should be removed from the endangered species list just so that drilling for oil will be easier in Alaska.
-I do not believe that people should use their power in an elected office to seek revenge on others because of personal vendettas.
-I do not believe in banning books, or even inquiring about it.
-I do not believe that folksy anecdotes or winking belong in a political race; they only reinforce her lack of experience and knowledge, and prove that she has to lower herself to flirting to get the job, something that is the most anti-feminist thing she could do. Feminism is about equality, not using your sex appeal to seem more "relatable." Would you wink in a job interview? How about a job interview with an entire country?

Little Thoughts
-Since when did the Design*Sponge guest blog morph from a design blog to a wedding blog? Aren't there ENOUGH wedding blogs/tv shows/magazine/websites? GAG ME. No really. Turn around and go get the biggest spoon you can find - I really need to fit into this wedding dress.
-The dogs next door have reached raucous heights. Impressive, really. This guy wins the "obnoxious house" award for sure.
-Whether you choose to ignore it or not, global warming is happening. It is not a conspiracy created by Al Gore. And your saying it isn't real, or telling people that going green isn't important, does not change the current situation. Maybe this makes you feel less guilty for driving a gas-guzzling sports car or not buying CFLs, or not recycling, or being a compulsive shopper, or littering, or leaving the lights on all the time, or never turning off your computer monitor. But it is still happening. YOUR God might have given you the right to bear arms and drive a Hummer, but MY God asked that I take care of His creations, a.k.a. THE EARTH and the plants and animals that inhabit it. (I'm still working on that whole not-judging thing, but at least I recycle and crap.)
-I can't wait to start composting! I finally found an affordable composter under $100 that I could take with me whenever I move to my next house. Now I won't have to throw away coffee grinds, coffee filters, tea bags, yard clippings, eggshells, etc. And it makes free, nutrient-rich dirt. Why do homeowners drive all the way to Home Depot and purchase dirt that is bagged in plastic and has been shipped here from some other state, when they could MAKE THEIR OWN DIRT? I will never understand it.
-Tonight there was a totally insane police chase on the news. But I'm really glad that the guy didn't hurt anyone. It was crazy!
-THIS IS SO COOL. It appeals to both my green side, and my stick-it-to-the-man side. I want to start up a group around here. Who's down? (more here)

I'm Begging You for Mercy
mish-mash:
-Replacing coffee pots is expensive, as they break waaaaay too easily. I don't even know how mine broke. I put it in the sink with warm soapy water in it, came back an hour later, and it was all cracked on one side. Piece.of.crap. The cost to replace it is $15 at Target, which is about half of what I paid for the entire coffeemaker. Ridiculous.
-These ceramic trays and bowls, found through Design*Sponge, are amazing. I like them all, but love #4, #5, #6, and #9. If you really love me you'll buy one for my new house.
-Palm trees are a bitch to cut out in photoshop. But after 2.5 hours of lasso-ing, my palm trees look SHARP. Watch out world.
-Tonight I am so so so looking forward to taking Ambien for the first time in an attempt to sleep through the incessant barking of the dogs next door. I am excited, to say the least.
-This weekend brings a long to-do list. Included are:
-mowing the lawn and pulling weeds
-measuring and cutting shelf paper (aka wallpaper I bought online because there is no such thing as stylish shelf paper) for all of the kitchen cabinets
-wash my car
-Hang curtain rods
-celebrating a friend's end-of-the-semester with brunch and thrift store shopping
-decide on paint colors
-get an oil change
-hanging a shelf or two
-picking up
-breaking down boxes
-looking for a dog trainer/behaviorist
-trying to get the kitchen door to latch
-vacuuming/mopping
-Target and home depot trips
-putting new knobs and pulls on the biult-in cabinets/drawers
...and maybe at some point, relaxing.

in the land of random
Today I got behind a Dodge pickup of some sort with a bumper sticker reading:
